A message from Bournemouth University striking staff to our students
New petition started by BU students: ”This is affecting my learning; I believe in what the lecturers are striking for but it shouldn’t have come to this”
Bournemouth University students have begun a petition calling BU to reimburse students for the teaching and learning time lost due to the planned strikes. They have stated that they support the lecturers in their choice to take industrial action, but feel that they should be compensated by BU for the fact that they are ‘missing extremely valuable time from our education as a result of the University’s attitudes towards its staff’.
As members of BU UCU, we are sad that we have to strike, and sadder still that students feel that they have to petition BU to get them to listen.

Student Support for the Strike
SUBU have voted to stand in solidarity with UCU and striking BU staff. In a poll conducted between 21-22 November which collected over 900 votes, BU students support their lecturers and professional staff with 46.6% of votes cast backing industrial action, and 46.2% expressing sympathy for the aims of UCU.
UCU members are delighted by the support shown by the poll and across social media from our students over the past few days; students are at the heart of all we do as lecturers and professional services staff, and we are grateful for your backing.
